In order for the Reading Platform to work properly, you must allow local storage in your web browser. Indeed, when you authorize a new web browser in your User Account, the Platform will store an identification key in the browser. When you access the platform again, the key is recognized, and the Platform will let you access the reports directly.
However, if the key has been deleted, the Platform will not recognise the browser. In this case, when you try to access the Platform, you will receive a message that the browser is not authorized. You will then be invited to authorize the browser again. However, each user can only authorize two browsers and subsequent attempts will result in a message informing you that you have reached the limit:
You will then have to contact us to reset your account, but you can check or change the settings for your browser in order to prevent this situation:
Microsoft Edge
Here are the instructions to follow if you are using Microsoft Edge.
- Open Edge and click on the three horizontal dots in the top right corner to open the menu
- Select “Settings”
- Scroll down and click on “Privacy, search, and services”
You will see the following window and under the section “Clear browsing data”, there is the option to “Choose what to clear every time you close the browser”:
By default, the browsing data is not deleted and the window will look as follows, in which case you do not need to make changes:
However, it may be that you have selected that all browsing data will be deleted every time you close the browser. In this case, the identification key will be deleted and this will generate problems to access the Reading Platform. It is however possible to make an exception for some sites. All you need to do is to add the Platform in the list of sites that will not be cleared by the clicking the button “Add” as shown below:
Then, you only need to add the URL address of the Reading Platform (https://app.safetyobserver.com/), and click the button “Add”. This way, your identification key will be stored even if the browsing data for other sites is cleared. Your browser will therefore always be recognized as authorized:
Google Chrome
If you are using Chrome as your browser, you can verify and adjust your privacy settings:
- Open Google Chrome and click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner to open the menu
- Select “Settings“
- On the side menu find and click “Privacy and security“
- Select “Site settings”
- Then select “Additional content settings” from the menu
Then Click on “On-device site data”.
By default, sites are allowed to save data on the device as shown below and you do not need to make changes in this case.
However, if another option is selected, you can also set an exception for selected sites. Under “Customised behaviours”, it is possible to include sites that are allowed to save data on the device. Click the button “Add” and include the URL address of the Reading Platform (i.e. https://app.safetyobserver.com/). Your identification key will then be kept even if the browsing data for all other sites is cleared, and your browser will always be recognized as authorized.
Firefox
If you are using Firefox as your browser, follow the instructions below to allow local storage:
- Open Firefox and click on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner to open the menu
- Select “Settings“
- In the left sidebar, select “Privacy & Security”
- Go to the “Cookies and Site Data” section
By default, the box “Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed” is unticked and you do not need to make changes in this case. However, if the box is ticked, you can also set an exception for selected sites. Click the button “Manage Exceptions”:
You will then see the pop-up window “Exceptions – Cookies and Site Data” where you can include the URL address of the Reading Platform (i.e. https://app.safetyobserver.com/). Click “Allow” and the “Save Changes”. Your identification key will then be kept even if the data for other sites is deleted and your browser will always be recognized as authorized.
